St Oswalds Park, Newton Aycliffe

Updated: Mar 24

šŸ“Wren Close, DL5 4BG. If you just type the name of the park in your satnav it should bring it up.

We visited this park in May 2023. I never knew much about this park before but my sister has visited previously with her kids and found it a good option for her daughter who has Cerebral Palsy to practice her walking with her walker and to play on some equipment, so we all decided to visit today.

šŸŒ»The play areas offer varied equipment with an aim to be accessible to different levels of ability.

šŸŒ»Thereā€™s a baby toddler play area with a good amount of play equipment including a slide, roundabout, obstacle course, swings and interactive play boards for sensory play and developing fine motor skills

šŸŒ»There is also a decent sized junior play area with rock climbing equipment, slides, climbingn frames, more interactive play boards, spinning poles, swings including accessible swings, a wheelchair accessible roundabout and more.

šŸŒ»There is also a basketball practice area although we didnā€™t walk round the park enough to see this.

šŸŒ»There are also flat paths around the park making it easier for those with mobility issues.

šŸŒ»Itā€™s a pretty park with well maintained gardens, planters and lots of greenery everywhere. I enjoyed walking through it to get to the play areas.

šŸŒ»There are picnic tables next to the junior play area to enjoy a picnic or chill.

šŸŒ»There are toilet facilities including a wheelchair accessible toilet and baby changing.

šŸŒ»I think this a great park. Itā€™s in a residential area so somewhat hidden away but yet still a decent size. It even has its own free car park with a good amount of spaces including some disabled bays.

šŸšPUBLIC TRANSPORTšŸš

Getting a bus from Darlington- Iā€™ve done a bit of research to provide this info as I drive so donā€™t get the bus really, however for those of you that donā€™t you can take the X21 heading to Peterlee or the number 8 heading to Spennymoor and stop at Vane Road School in Newton Aycliffe. It is then an 8 minute walk roughly (Iā€™ve included an image of google maps so you can see the location).

This is the most direct route.

If you get a bus into Newton Aycliffe Centre or are heading from there you could then walk for around 20 minutes or there may be another local bus to take you there but Iā€™ve not managed to find one thatā€™s any closer than the Vane Road School option. You can check routes at https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/

šŸ’AN IDEA TO EXTEND YOUR DAYšŸ’

We also combined our visit to this park with a play and some lunch at Little Land of Adventures in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre. No new photos of this today as it was quite busy, but you can read up on one of our previous visits and see photos here šŸ‘‡

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps :)
